HCC-TxAPT Philanthropy

The Hill Country Chapter of the Association for Play Therapy is dedicated to giving back to our local community and supporting children and families in need. For our November 2023 donation drive, we are collecting donations for the Uvalde Love Community Project!

The Uvalde Love Community Art Therapy intervention project will contribute to ongoing efforts in Uvalde, TX toward community healing in response to the tragedy on May 25, 2022 at Robb Elementary School.

The Uvalde Love Project is a grassroots effort by local Texas Therapists

Groups within and outside of the Uvalde community have been providing a variety of support measures since the tragic incident. This project is unique from the other efforts. The Uvalde Love Project plan combines professional development, group therapy, community and art.

Uvalde Love Project Goals

  • Train art teachers on evidence-based therapies that have been shown to promote self-care and resiliency among students in response to tragedy.

  • Conduct public workshops on self-care and resiliency for parents, students, families and other members of the Uvalde community.

  • Provide mental health services that are culturally responsive, language accessible, as well as developmentally appropriate for different age groups.

Uvalde Love Project Objectives

  • Enable teachers and tutors to utilize strategies in their classrooms derived from multiple therapeutic models to foster healing and resiliency.

  • Provide a safe place for participants of all ages to develop a sense of connectedness, practice healthy coping skills, and self-expression through art-making.
